EVALUATION

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
i have developed a range of skills through this module. i have developed my skills and confidence in producing work for clients, this was in the smoothie company menu brief. it was good to produce work and show clients to see how there input has an effect on how a piece of work is resolved. this brief also developed my confidence and experience with contacting printers. it gave me an insight in to what file formats to choose, and pricing for digital print jobs. for products such as menus and business cards. i have also taken on a fair amount of work, on this module. which has developed the way i work with multiple briefs. however i think that i need to develop considerably how i mange my time when working on multiple briefs. which i began doing effectively towards the end of this module on the Bacardi brief for example.

2. What approaches to generating work and solutions to problems have you developed and how have they helped?
for all the briefs i have chosen i have limited the amount of colours which i used to three- four. this helped me a lot as it made my resolutions more focused and created more impact and identity. i have developed my type and layout skills, considerably in this module, i have began to use typography more appropriately, and taking aspects such as higher achy of information, limited the amount of typefaces used. i have began to use different weights of the same typeface to make the information on my designs more ordered and readable. this has helped make my work look more professional, i still need to develop my knowledge in this area, but it shows that i have started to consider how typography can be designed to link in with my image work
so that the work is not lost with the use of bad typography.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
limiting the use of colour has made my work feel more appropriate for the briefs which i have selected. i think that my final resolutions have more interest to them because i have taken this into consideration. the use of colour has also proved to be a good way in which i can make subtle references within my work. for example the Headline brief i decided to use the colours purple, magenta and silver. this is so it has an 80s (nike) overall feel. this was so it is more appealing to the type of people which shop in urban outfitters where the work was exhibited.
i have began limiting what i put on my design, rather than just 'filling space' i have started taking into consideration what is appropriate to make my designs work and how effectively i can deliver this through the use of well considered typefaces, colour and use of well selected imagery, in the sense of: style in which is produced in and how everything is layout out to create well considered finished pieces.
i think i have began to develop an illustrative style which combines imagery and hand crafted type. this was brought across in the dont panic breif which i selected. however i will start using this only when its approraite so my portfolio is not just filled with the same style.
i have also developed the use of typography and layout within my work so that my final designs look more considered.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how could you exploit these more fully?
i have found that type management of my briefs has been an issue in this module, i spent to long on some briefs at the start of the module, overcomplicating designs and not making quicker design desitions.
i have also found it hard to work on multiple briefs at the same time, i have found that the majority of this module i completed briefs one after the other. this was so i gave fool attention to the brief. however this is not a realistic situation, in industry i would be working on multiple briefs at the same time, so i will have to capitalize on this throughout my FMP.
i also found that spending more than two weeks on a briefs makes my work drag on too long on briefs such as the headline. in some cases such as the sixpack brief its appropriate to spend a considerable amount of time. i have found that my work is more successful when i spend less time on the brief, as i am forced to make quicker design desitions.

5. Identify five things that you will do different next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

I will make a more organised and realistic plan, before i start my fmp. i will also make the plans more in depth by adding information such as crit times and workshop times. this will allow me to make mini deadlines for myself, before i start the work.

i will continue to make good use of the photography equipment which we have available to us and studio space which we can use to take the photographs, this will make my work look professional for product shots which will work well in my portfolio.

I will spend less time on my briefs so i'm working at a more quicker pace, this will help me to make quicker desitions when designing, this will help me work under more professional time scales and put more pressure on me when producing design work.

i will use my design context to make a more radical contextual study, which will strengthen my knowledge of design and also create a more informed path in which i would like to do down when i finish this course. this will include vists and interviews with designers and studios.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)
5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Attendance 5
Punctuality 4
Motivation 4

FINAL BOTTLE DESIGN

here are the selected labels for the front and back bottle design. i have decided to use sticker labels rather then flexo printing on sticky assotate. this is so i can make the bottle feel more authentic with the use of considered stock. it has also allowed me to be selective with the amount of detail i have put on the labels. i have decided to go for a more simplistic look, because the pitch fork inside will become more noticeable and act as a key part of the design, also it will look thicker, due to it being surrounded in a liquid content

Here are a range of PARCHMENT AND MARBLE effect stocks from GF SMITH. for the final labels i would print them on a stock from the LORENZO section called: TOPAZ
this is so the label will look more credible to the style of devil and angel, it will also make the chosen colours standout more. this style of parchment stock will be nice to use though out the packageing and labels. i will keep this in to consideration as i extend the outcomes for the brief.

BACK LABEL LAYOUTS

UNLEASH THE DEVIL.
i have decided to use this as one of the strap lines for the bacardi devil drink.
it is short and has impact, it can be designed and included without over complicating the designs. it is also another subtle reference to flirtation, it suggests that you might behave badly after drinking this drink, the suggestion of danger will appeal to the age range 18-24 year old males.

Pitch fork stirrer

Here are some variations for a PITCH FORK stirrer.

i have decided to include a stirrer within the bottle. this is so the target market feels as if they are getting more then what are paying for. this is also a reference to a limited product. as you a getting a collectable item with your bottle. it will grab the audiences attention, as it is different to what you would normally get when you by a bottle of bacardi.

it makes reference to the pitch forms used on the type design, this will make t wok well as a set. it will also make the design unique and standout. therefore i will not have to put as much detail on the package design. which will make the subtle icons more apparent. and still draw there audiences attention to the stirrer.

the stirrer will stand out more because it will be in the bottle so the liquid will make it look bigger, therefore i will keep the design for it simple, it will be made out of plastic of metal so that it is practical.

a appropriate material to make this product could be thick per specs plastic. so that it is not to expensive and so that it is still a credible aspect of the product and not just an after thought.

it will have to be red to fit in with the design.

POSTER CONTEXT

here is a context shot of the poster. i have used photoshop to merge the poster into an existing image of a bus shelter.

FINAL PREFERRED POSTER DESIGNS

Here are the selected poster designs i have chosen the black poster as my final design as it brings across the information more effectively, the black brings attention to the poster, which also complements the red and gold. the layout of type and imagery is centered so the information is easy to red. i have kept the icons small so they subtly is kept and so it doesn't over complicate the design. the use of red works well as secondary information. this helps to create a poster which is observed in a orderly manor.

BACARDI POSTERS IDEAS

the black and gold posters above work the best as they are bold and the information wanted is easy to read and follow.

the label design with the red boarder and black inside works best on a white background, because due to the white space the impact of the black eye catching.

making the pitchforks too big, makes the layout look over crowded and it also takes away the origional subtle resoning for having the pitchforks.

PRODUCT SHOTS FOR THE BOTTLE

MAKING THE MOCK UP

here i have looked into different paper stocks which complement the design and colors chossen for the bottel design. i have looked at stocks which could be used when it comes to doing labels/ packageing and booklets for the bottels.

LABEL PRINTED ON: light sand colour card

LABEL PRINTED ON: thin newsprint stock

FRONT BOTTLE LABELS

Here are a selection of some of my proffered labels for the front of the Bacardi bottle for the DEVIL DRINK. I have decided to limit the colours to white/black/red and gold. this will allow me to make the Angel bottle more consistent with the Devil one.

the above bottle design works the best as it doesn't over complicate the design and the information is delivered across well. all the subtle icons have enough space to be noticed.

using a red outline around the bottom label doesn't work well on the above label, it makes the two different labels have too much contrast, it also doesn't work with the Bacardi logo.

Ithink that the black and red label brings across the information well however i don't think that it would work on the bottle as the use of to much back will make the bottle look slightly tacky, it may also contrast with the contents of the bottle

above are some type variations for the for bottom label for the front of the bottle, i have experimenting with how i am going include colour and separate the information.
